Community and Leadership Education

At the center of every Partners for Active Living effort is the aim to educate and motivate our community and organization leaders to understand the health benefits of physical activity, to recognize the impact that community design has on our health and quality of life, and to pursue new strategies and practices supporting active environments.

Partnerships with a variety of local and state organizations have led to community trainings, workshops and conferences designed to build the capacity of our residents, government staff, organizational leaders and elected officials to create a healthy, active and truly livable Spartanburg.

 Examples of past efforts include:

  • Pedestrian Safety Road Show, May 2002
  • Partnering for Prosperity, December 2002
  • Dan Burden Walkability Workshop, March 2003
  • University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center’s Physical Activity and Public Health Course, September 2003.
  • Mark Fenton Visit, July 2004
  • Mark Fenton Library Staff Day, August 2004
