Community Services that Promote Active Living

The Partners for Active Living staff provides multiple services that can help you, your business, organization or neighborhood get more active. If the below options meet your needs, please contact the PAL office.

1. Community Presentations: the PAL staff is honored to present on various topics related to active living. Click here for more details.

2. Creating & Assessing Connections: A key ingredient to creating an active environment is in connecting people to destinations. PAL has assisted groups determine the best means of creating connections and what those connections should look like. Taking this one step further, the staff worked with the Spartanburg Nutrition Council to assess needed pedestrian and bicycle improvements from Downtown's Morgan Square to the Hub City Farmers' Market. A full report with appropriate pictures and text was created from the assessment.

3. Active Living Event Assistance: PAL has planned and executed various events, from bicycle and runing races to formal speakers' presentations, that relate to active living.

4. Active Living Publication Assistance: Over the last year, the PAL staff has published walking and bicycling route guides that provide turn-by-turn instructions and detailed safety information. In addition, the organization has contributed to the active living section of the Spartanburg Nutrition Council's Community Garden Manual.

5. Active Living Infrastructure Recommendations & Management: The PAL staff has worked with both the City of Spartanburg and the Preservation Trust to develop recommendations for and secure funding for multiple bicycle lanes and racks throughout the community.

6. Safe Routes to School & League Certified Instructor Courses: These two courses are offered in ordered to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. Safe Routes to School courses assist schools in developing action plans for the improved conditions for walking and bicycling to schools. League Certified Instructor courses equip certify individuals to conduct various bicycle safety programs.
